On May 4th 2009 I had the opportunity to host an extraordinary b-boy battle in Zurich. It concerned the arrival of the Swiss national circus KNIE on the following Friday (8 May 2009) in Switzerland’s biggest city and was held at the Mascotte – a club with a view onto the spot where the big top would be installed at, near the Bellevue!
Now, what has the national circus to do with b-boy battles. Well, the special guests of this year’s tour are former b-boys from the Bernese Seeland (you wouldn’t know more if I told you the small village’s name): the Starbugs!
2 weeks before, I got a call from a certain Nik from the circus KNIE that sounded very serious in asking me for this “job” (yes shure, muahahahaaa) ! As he mentioned that the Starbugs had given him my contact I knew this was not a terribly awful attempt to kid me and in the end I couldn’t help say “YES, I will with pleasure”!

So the Monday morning turned into a media event with an attempt to take over the Zurich scene with seemingly no counter-party to object the arrival of the trio! But only fools think b-boys are late risers and don’t defend their territory! The Ultimate Floor Rockers fought well and would have won the battle by technique, but they stood no chance against the Starbugs’ humourous, pants-down way of capturing sympathy. So the battle ended even and Fäbu, Tinu and Silu were allowed a 1-month-stay in Zurich by the local Ultimate Floor Rockers, namely H. O., J. P. and Pow-Low, the latter being the world record holder in elbow spins, by the way!!!
I thank the Starbugs and KNIE and all the participants very much for this opportunity and humongous experience, and I suggest you all go to KNIE when it comes near your city (but beware: the Starbugs won’t be featured on every location, go inform yourself).

Yes, finally my beloved local football (soccer) club FC Biel/Bienne is entering the 21st century with its marketing strategies and advertisment campaigns. In doing so, they created the new slogan “ENSEMBLE GEWINNEN WIR” and invited “local celebrities” to team up with players of the fanion team on a picture campaign. Being close to the creators of the FC Biel/Bienne marketing strategies and (I dare say so) locally not the absolute unknown guy, I made it on the picture with Alain Meyer, goalkeeper of the team.

The fact that Alain and me played football together for about 5 years for FC Orpund, SV Safnern and SC Aegerten-Brügg makes it even nicer in my eyes. Nevertheless have a look at it and check the other people on the pics…

Yo, it’s been quite a while since the last post on this blog… my apologies! But I’ve been enjoying this year’s winter blessings like I hadn’t for about 10 years. This year has been the 4th time I co-conducted a ski camp in Sörenberg (Lucerne, Switzerland) with a school from Bellmund and it was the bomb for quite a few special reasons. But number one was the amount of snow falling during January and also calender week 7! The 10 to 12 year old pupils witnessed a phenomenal week on skis and snowboards and were taught how to handle their choice of gear in a good meter of fresh powder snow. Despite the persisting snowfall, the sight was quite good and we managed to have an injury-free week, culminating in a perfect sunny day on Friday to close it off.
For me, this was like waking up from a year-lasting nightmare of snowlessness and bad luck in choosing the ski holidays. Having had the service done on my board just before the camp, I enjoyed it even more.
I know some people may have got used to the milder winters with strong snowfalls, but not quite as well distributed on the season. I feel sorry for them, because when I was a kid, winters like the one we have now were normal.
I wish all the people a joyful and sound winter season… enjoy it, because spring is going to come sooner or later!

Lately, I’ve been thinking about the 7 years I (co-)mastered the bnct.ch website! It was a fruitful time, when not everyone had a myspace or facebook account and people were interested in getting local infos on one website. We didn’t “journalize” on Biel/Bienne, but still we tried to give a different approach to local musicians, artists and nightlife.
Many people used the website without leaving imprints and didn’t even bother to say they were missing it when it disappeared. Others wanted us to go on with it and told us so many times. I happen to get mails even today, mostly because the bnct.ch eMail address still persists in those people’s distribution lists. Never mind, I don’t even declare you as SPAM.
A wide selction of MP3 files of local music bands and artists was offered on the site (for free) and I recently found a backup of all those songs. I found myself lost in the listening for at least 3 hours.
Well, what’s the purpose of this post you’ll ask me… Or even if you don’t, I’ll give you the answer. Some motivated guys witnessed their will to get on with bnct.ch, especially the agenda part of it. I’ll keep you updated on this issue.

So there it was, on Friday January 9th at the Coupole in Biel. The DopePose Possee (http://www.dopepose.com) invited to an OldSchoolish event promoting the purpose of its existance and I was hired as the presenter. About half a dozen of DJ’s tag teamed for 30-minute-sets ranging from Boom Rap to Forgotten Treasures. About half the audience was younger than most of the tracks played and the other half was formed by more or less well-known B-Girls and B-Boys that gave in to their will to dance and nostalgic Rap addicts wanting to reminiss about the good old times. The legendary LSD Crew from Germany (Pioneers of HipHop in Germany, namely MC’s KoLute & Future Rock and DJ’s Defcon and Rick SKi) performed their 1991 Album “Watch Out for the Third Rail” and gave the mostly young crowd a historical lesson in where it all started and how it was non-materialistic and non-violent.. then! It went good by the time some individuals threw lighters on stage and finally when the concert ended an empty glass bottle that shattered against the DJ’s podium and could well have hit someone, but fortunately it didn’t.
Nevertheless the party had to go on and the motherf–ker wasn’t found. Still the problem of having massive glass bottles in a club given to (too) young people that tend to drink (smoke etc,) too much must be kept on the table and solved soon! Before someone incurs reallyhard injuries!
Still I give a great shoutout to Rosy One and her team for this cultural party and hope to see such an event at least once a year come to Bienne City.
PS: Don’t take yourself too serious people.. the world isn’t yours alone! Start posing!

The MC Igee Network Blog (MIN Blog) is taking one of BNCT’s first artist websites (since 1999) to another level. The Web 2.0 level! I will try to let you get into some unexpected infos linked with my little network of artists, friends, work and activities.
For now I will keep it to this, as I have to work on a nicer theme to use…
